How to tackle CBSE class XII mathematics exam

Hey people!

I have seen that a lot of you recently came here looking for HINTS AND TIPS on how to tackle the CBSE Class XII mathematics paper, so here it goes:

1. Try to finish all your study a day before the paper (by study I mean - all the theory you want)

2. DO THE CBSE SAMPLE PAPERS (VVVV important - the question paper is set in a similar fashion

3. On the last day - do as many examples from whatever book you have, as you can. NOTE: Most books have a special notation for questions that they have taken from the NCERT - do those particularly.

4. This should prepare you well for the exam ->

On the exam day <>

1. Take a shower, no matter how late you get up - or even if you didn't sleep at all --- a shower revitalizes your mind (use a menthol shampoo - if you have one).

2. Study on the way to the EXAM center - even if you are well prepared - just read some examples while you are on the move - this keeps the mind active - and it does not have to boot up in the class room. (you don;t miss out on any new ideas)

3. During the 15 minutes reading period : Look through the first few pages - and try to visualize the solutions in mind (be quick - don't start solving it -- just see the solution steps)
- This would help you glide through the first two pages of the Question paper - and a GOOD start is all you need!

4. Even if you don't know a question and feel as if you can get some help from your friends or can give some help to a needful -- DO NOT. I made the same mistake - it is stupid to do so in the middle of the exam - because you waste time looking for an oopurtunity to peep and poke!
Instead - finish all you can first. And then I am sure there'll be time for you to ask your peers or to dawn the mantle of Mother Teresa!

5. Keep your chin up - there are no IIT level questions here - YOU CAN solve all of them (i.e. if you have read something on the topic) . . .

6. Do them all - even if partially - because you get points to attempt the QUESTIONS -- but DO not annoy the checker - by writing stupid stuff (even stupid answers - like trying to integrate when asked to differentiate - if that happens often - it is bad for you)... just do whatever you can.

7. Think from the perspective of the CHECKER - make life easy for her/him :
Draw margins - leave ample space after each answer - underline the answer - and the important steps --- YOu make it easy for her - she'll make it easier for you ;)

8. GOOD LUCK!

Rendez-vous E-Magazine - Interview: Winner of the French Kiss Competition

Interview: with Pranjal Y. Kumar, French Kiss contest winner

Pranjal Y. Kumar

How did you get the idea of joining the competition?

I was informed about the competition and “Rendez-vous” magazine by my counsellor at EduFrance, Mrs. Sudha Mary Toppo. I had never been to a club or a music event before this – so this was one opportunity I didn't want to miss.

How do you feel about France ? Have you ever been there? Why did you choose this country?

I met Mrs. Sudha Mary Toppo, counsellor at EduFrance, at the European Higher Education Fair. She introduced me to the SCAN program at INSA, Lyon (an engineering program wherein the first two years are taught in English). That was my first encounter with France. Later, on an internet forum where we discuss American Universities, I met a French girl who was headed for the US. We discussed about INSA Lyon, which she rated highly. She soon went on to become a dear friend of mine – guiding me through Paris (her city), her culture and her life.

Pranjal Y. Kumar is a 19-year-old student in Computer Science who was selected as the recipient of the French Embassy Scholarship to go and study Computer Engineering in INSA, Lyon next year. Here he speaks about his first experience of going to a concert , after being declared as the winner of the on-line French Kiss competition.

I haven't been to France but regular interactions with her have helped me form an image of the French culture. "Saying hello to strangers when you meet them in an elevator", "long dinners where the focus is conversation, not television" – these are the traits that Indian culture has lost to the so called Western influence, and I am very impressed that such a compassionate culture is the face of a 'modern' Western nation.

What do you think of the "French Kiss" initiative which was organised by the French Embassy? Did you like the artists who performed that day?

Music to me is a celebration - the expression of a mood, of emotions and an expression of culture. And good music is one that appeals to the ear - language of the lyrics is no criterion - although many a times lyrics can completely intensify a musical experience. “French Kiss” represents the same spirit - I don't understand French but I was there to enjoy the music and to connect! And in fact I enjoyed Emily's French compositions more than her English ones.

It was the first time ever that I had the opportunity to attend a music event, so I was already super-excited and then my celebrity-like treatment by the gracious Ms. Bénédicte Meyssan just made my evening.

I enjoyed Anaïs and I loved Emily. Unfortunately, I missed Mademoiselle K's performance because I had to leave in time to catch the last bus that plies to my city (NOIDA).

The IIT JEE 2006 was scheduled on the 9th of April. With hefty changes in the pattern, this new avatar of the JEE was welcomed by all and sundry. Until Jan-06 I was almost fully geared to tackle the JEE, but then selection in the NDA and the SSB interview, BOARD practicals simply took me away from it. These swallowed Feb, and then was the time for the Board –exams. I was almost decided that I’ll start preparing for the JEE from the first hour of 24th March (23rd was the last exam—comp science) But if every thing could go as decided, then we would all have been millionaires. I don’t remember what might have had happened that day but surely I didn’t had the best of the study periods until April 1st.

Anyways I believe the blog was supposed to be upon JEE……… allow me to concentrate ……….Alright, there was no tension _-_ even the night before the JEE I watched the movie, “Maine Gandhi ko nahi mara”-(Hindi—it means ‘I didn’t kill Gandhi’). The central character of the movie was a patient suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, who forgets all his present and starts believing that he had killed Gandhi. It was a nice and touching script……….Hell, why can’t I just concentrate upon JEE
Ammm…... Lets give it another try
April 9, 2006
It was decided that I’ll go with Gaurav on his Army- vehicle and I guess there’s no point in mentioning what had happened during the journey. We were there 15 mins before the scheduled time of starting. Upon reaching the gate we were instructed to leave our bags outside the centre. Now we had no place to keep the bag, the car was already gone. Now the IITian (future IITian rather) came into play, Gaurav had an idea. He pleaded with the shopkeepers who refused to take custody of the bag reasoning that they already had enough of them. This gave us some confidence that there were others like us too ( also a feeling that there many (future) IITians in the center already …hmm)When we were back at the gates I realized that I had left my Admit Card in the bag itself and now with just a minute or two to go I had to rush not only to fetch my Admit Card, but also to get to my testing seat crossing the sprawling campus of the College( our test centre). The paper(Physics Exam) went fine but the only disappointment was that the topics I was weak at were holding a larger proportion. I had finished the paper with surprisingly about half an hour to go ( I should mention that I had not attempted the whole of the question paper). Half an hour more ………. And I never felt like going through the remaining portion so I turned onto to the instructions page where I found another surprising feature there were a few questions that carried NO negative marks,,,, so I started attempting those questions furiously. The paper was over and now we were left with two consuming hours to spare until the next part of the exam would start. I, Gaurav and Neeraj(a school pal) hooked up together and spent all our time in a refreshment shop, chewing snacks and munching sweets. I didn’t eat much……. This was quite beneficial while the two were sleepy and drowsy during the Mathematics Exam( the paper was tough - it really tested a student’s skills). Yet again we were left with another two hours to spare. This was the time to finish the tiffin I was carrying.
Chemistry was to follow…………….
Overall I got to realize the new dimensions of this ever competitive exam. The new pattern had enwrapped the ‘old JEE screening’ thing as well as a part of the ‘Mains’.
A brief review of the Question papers
CHEMISTRY : It was quite evenly poised –i.e. Physical, organic and inorganic had their regular stacks and none was over-emphasized.
MATHEMATICS : This was a decent paper wherein Calculus and Geometry were on the up whereas other sections could not command their proportion..
PHYSICS : Although I was unable to observe the Question paper completely, yet a significant thing to observe were the Two questions which involved lab-lectures.

Thursday : CBSE XII Computer Exam

I hadn’t a nap this time either, courtesy Links, Stacks and queues. Why these and not the rest - because we had never done them at school <infact a significant part of the syllabus was never touched upon at school - Because::: we had a frequent change in the computer faculty.... and spent a lot of time without a teacher> .

Anyways the C++ part of the paper seemed to be hell; I lost all my nerves seeing the first question ‘Name the header file associated with “pow” ’ . I could not make it out. I was perplexed and then it struck my dumb head to start things off with SQL, Boolean and Networking. It worked, I gained a bit of confidence and then switched over to c++. Surprisingly pow seemed to be power and I was on top of the world. Moving further with C++ I lost all what I had gained so far, the question on links got the better of me and I guess I did lose the battle.

Party planning and merry making … all the way now

Friday: CBSE XII Chemistry Exam

I could not have a nap this time too, because of the arguing BIOMOLECULES and Coordinate Chemistry. And yet again the same sequence of events took place( if the question 'Which series of events? ' comes into ur head please scroll down the page and read about the ENGLISH EXAM). The paper was easy, but how can I do everything absolutely correctly. Besides the fact that there were a couple of questions which had caught me totally unaware, I had committed a blunder. Molecular mass of Urea, even a kid could have got that right but how can I ? I took 120 grams in place of 60 grams. On the return journey while everyone was celebrating and planning parties a few including me could not be a part of the cadre since we had another exam – computer science.
